When I first went to Hayling, the Steam railway was still running from Havant. The milk was delivered from a dairy on the island by a horse-drawn milk float. Anyone remember the singing milkman? There was a cinema in Mengham, and a bus garage. In the summer they ran open-top double-deckers. The annual carnival was a huge event, with lots of floats, a funfair and fireworks display. Creek Road in holiday time was packed with people enjoying the arcades and bingo. There were four holiday camps on the island. Sadly all in the past. Hayling is still a nice place, in parts, but it's now over-developed, and a twilight zone for the aged, and many unemployed people with all sorts of issues.

They do a lot of weekend events there including Goth weekend twice a year in April and end of October. I have been to several and they are brilliant just to sit on a bench and see all the amazing outfits.

Whats it like in February? I'm going here half term school holidays from Yorkshire with my daughter who as additional needs she's 10yrs old we going with Caledonian travel 4days break hope it's worth thev 5& half yrs drive ek I thought I would go somewhere different staying at torbay hotel.

I'm from the south east of France, and Nothern France gets a bad rap here, but it looks stunning when the nice weather is out!! I'd love to go and visit now, almost reminds me of Pismo Beach (albeit Calais is not as pretty but still stunning)
